World TB Day, falling on March 24th each year, is designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains a widespread occurrence, causing the deaths of nearly 1.5 million people each year. This day has been observed since 1882 when Dr Robert Koch discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus.
